Sail Away with Robin Knox-Johnston

edpic have launched Sail Away, an online viral game for Saga, the largest provider of goods and services specifically designed for the over 50s.

edpic has aligned Team Saga Insurance's sponsorship of Sir Robin Knox Johnston's latest round the world voyage with a flash-based quiz game following the great sailor's adventures.

It is the first time the over 50s Saga audience has been targeted with a unique online game. The brief was to keep the game simple but compelling and reflect the growing use of the internet in the over 50s demographic. Sir Robin himself regularly updates his blog wirelessly from the high seas at the tender age of 68.

Answering general knowledge questions, the user is guided around the world as if navigating Team Saga Insurance's racing yacht. As well as playing the Sail Away online quiz the user can also enter a free prize draw to win a range of prizes, including a day's sailing with Sir Robin in the Solent and a holiday for two aboard one of Saga's luxury cruise ships.

edpic's Head of Digital Media, Mark Doyle, said, "Saga's bold move shows that viral marketing is no longer the exclusive domain of the young.

"Saga have enormous respect for their massive customer base and have created a product which gently introduces them to a new web experience."

We have to agree with the enlightened view of Fox Mobile CEO Mauro Montanaro when he said: ‘There are two main differences today, which have hampered growth of (mobile) 1.0. Whatever is offered on 2.0 needs to be transparent and seamless and consumers need to understand what they are buying from the mobile content provider without any tricks.’ He also correctly said there must also be different content offered for mobile phones than found on other media.
